Announcing Our New Solar Panel Project
Lumiere D’Education has a new project in the works to help shine a light on Haiti – literally! We are very excited to once again partner with the JD Sheth Foundation, this time to install solar panels at our school.
Try to imagine living your life with no electricity. No air conditioning in the hot summer months, no appliances for cooking, no computers, no lights at night or during a rainy afternoon. This is a daily reality for many people in Haiti.
While our school does have electricity, ongoing civil unrest and infrastructure problems make power unreliable. Blackouts are common and sometimes there is no electricity available for days at a time. Obviously, this is not an ideal learning environment for our students.
We’re so happy to be working with the JD Sheth Foundation again to help make our solar panel project a reality. In 2019, they partnered with us to help provide clean, running water to our school, which has been an incredible addition to L’Ecole Dinaus Mixed.
Two battery-operated solar panels will be installed to provide reliable lighting to the school. We’ll also be installing fans in the classrooms to help keep our students and teachers cool in Haiti’s hot climate.
Not only will these solar panels provide cost-effective and dependable power to our school, but they will also help build a more environmentally friendly future for Haiti. We plan to have the project completed sometime in the spring of 2021.
With all of the economic upheaval of the past year, our original cost estimate for this project has changed, so we’re reaching out to our amazing supporters to help us make up the cost difference for our solar panels.
